In March, I met with our Board of Trustees to discuss the Scheme and the feedback that we received during the consultation period (October 2011 to December 2011).

I am delighted to be able to report back on that meeting and the decisions we have made, so that we can move the Scheme forward.

Your involvement in the consultation process has been invaluable and I am pleased to note that one of the key recommendations is to extend this process.

We compiled an interim report with the decisions taken and the timetable we have put in place, a full version of which is available to download as a PDF. Below are some bullet points, highlighting key decisions and the timetable included in the report.

I look forward to working with you in the coming months to affirm our plan ‘to become the preferred professional membership body for teachers of dance around the world'.

Luke Rittner
Chief Executive

Summary of areas to be addressed, from the feedback process

  1. Criteria for eligibility to enter candidates for RAD Examinations and loss of exclusivity for RAD Registered Teachers (and teachers recognised by mutual agreement)
  2. Avoid any potential dilution of the RAD brand and the need to maintain RAD standards of teaching
  3. Ensuring that RAD standards of teaching are maintained
  4. Ensuring that procedures for evaluation of both practical teaching experience and academic qualifications are rigorous, transparent and shaped in accordance with developments of the EU Directive
  5. Further clarification and understanding of all RAD status awards & qualifications within the context of the Scheme.
  6. Ensuring that Chartered Teacher is an accessible category to current RAD teachers

Communicating the Scheme

The feedback also identified the need for clear and consistent communication to Faculty of Education students (prospective and current) and RAD teaching members...

Decisions Taken

  1. Revise the launch date of the Scheme to the membership from September 2012 to September 2014
  2. Carry out further research on how best to incorporate the feedback into a revised version of the Scheme
  3. Review the proposed categories within the context of current UK government changes to initial teacher training and other significant international frameworks
  4. Seek input at every stage of development from a wider spectrum of the membership including those students and members whohave already engaged in the consultation process
  5. Ensure that further consultation also includes external expertise on European Union developments on professional qualifications
